Aftab Darvishi was born in Tehran-Iran in 1987. She started to play Violin when she was 5, As she grew older she got in touch with more instruments like Kamancheh (Iranian string instrument) and more specific with classical Piano.
After gaining her Bachelor degree with honors from University of Tehran in Musical Performance, in 2010, She moved to Amsterdam to continue her master degree in Composing for film at the Conservatorium Van Amsterdam. After two years of working closely with many directors from the Netherlands and with the supervision of Jurre Haanstra she gained her Master degree in 2012.
Aftab has presented her music in various festivals in Europe and Asia working with various ensembles such as Orkest De Ereprijs, Riccioti ensemble, Oerknal ensemble, Royal Ensemble, etc. She has participated at 20th Young Composers Meeting – Apeldoorn, Netherlands (2014), SnowMask-Denmark (2015), Paphos 2017(as the European capital of Culture) and Holland Festival (2015). She has also attended various artistic residencies such AiEP Contemporary Dance Company (Milan), Kinitiras studio (Athens), Akropoditi Dance center (Syros) and Listhus (Iceland).
At the moment, she is living in The Hague. Where she studies composition at the Royal Conservatory of the Hague with Martijn Padding and Yannis Kyriakides and Karnatic music (South Indian musical music) with Rafael Reina at Conservatorium Van Amsterdam. Apart from composing, she is a member of Ensemble KHz; an experimental electronic ensemble with supervision of Yannis Kyriakides.
